The small Medieval town of Pereta is situated on the road between Magliano in Toscana and Scansano, only 20 minutes driving from our campings and hotels.

The town is made up with two different areas, the most ancient one is bordered by elliptical walls and is on the top of the hill with the majestic clock tower. The highest part of the town, created by the Aldobrandeschi family, is bordered by a series of building which form a sort of round stone curtain with the houses.

The walls are well preserved and you could still see some towers. At the beginning of the town there is one of the two doors, the West Door (Porta di Ponente) with a segmental arch on the external side which became a sort of triumphal arch thanks to the 800s restoration.

When entering through the door you will feel the atmosphere of a medieval town with narrow streets, uphill alleys and beautiful balconies with geranium and flowers, every corner hides a surprise until you will arrive to the high tower.

In Pereta there are 2 beautiful churches dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta and San Giovanni Battista, the second one is situated next to a wonderful terrace full of flowers with an amazing view over Maremma hills and countryside to the sea and Monte Argentario.

After your trip we suggest you to taste some Morellino in the wineries along the street to Scansano, so that you will find some tasty souvenir for cold winter nights.
